About this deal

Try out our Twinkl Puzzled Adventure Books, including Adventure at Dragon Castle and The Lost Astronaut. We seem to have focused on the life in the oceans so far but this book Oceans Of The World In Color: Marine Life and Oceanography for Childrengoes into more details about the oceans themselves, where they can be found, what they are like, their names as well as a little on the creatures that live there.

The Sea Around Us smashed records when it was published and earned Carson recognition in many science and literary circles. In a focused examination of the world’s most elusive fish, The Book of Eels details just how very little is known about the European eel … so much so that for hundreds of years, scientists and philosophers have curated a fascination with “the eel question:” What are they; fish, or some other creature? After natural occurrences like lightning and fire ruined many of his samples, a California earthquake in the early 1900s demolished his specimen collection. Buckle up, because these stories are filled with many examples of undersea discoveries, ocean mysteries, historical curiosities and more—so many, in fact, that I’m sure it’ll be a challenge to pick which book to start with. We started the month by reading some of our favorite Under Water books and for our craft activity today we made jellyfish using paper plates and crepe paper.

You'll be amazed how interested they are and if you look at the pictures and ask open-ended questions they will learn so much!

Often referred to as “the greatest book of the sea ever written,” Herman Melville’s masterpiece tells the story of a fanatical captain out for revenge against a whale. Traveling from laboratory to fishing boat to the bottom of the ocean, Corson paints an intimate portrait of lobster and the people who fish for them. This book tells her firsthand story of what it’s like to explore our planet’s final frontier: the deep sea. Books that are sensory are a hit with young toddlers and also older ones too, and Discovery Kids Splash in the Ocean!Joshua Horwitz explores the legal and moral saga of a military secret that threatens the lives of whales, forcing one to ask the question: where do we draw the line between national security and protecting the ocean?

Each feature, written by women from a variety of backgrounds including science, farming, advocacy, innovation and more, offers poignant insight on exactly how we can work to reshape society to truly save all that we can here on Earth. A few of these issues include the barriers that prevent women from pursuing careers beneath the waves, harrowing experiences that inevitably come with the territory of being a diver and the critical discoveries made possible by the risks these divers take.Another favourite children’s author of our’s Leo Lionni is the author and illustrator behind Swimmya story with a moral and a wonderful book to read aloud to your children. With warmer weather comes more time spent outside enjoying longer, sun-drenched days with peaceful breezes.
