About this deal

Joining the ranks of stand-ups writing novels for children is this author, who invents a quirky young heroine, and thrusts her right into a locked-room mystery. Bookwagon recommends Death at the Lighthouse to all dedicated readers who enjoy crime and humour in their reading choices. Murder at the Museum delivers a good deal of laughs and is a love letter to classic Christie novels that will delight any parents reading the book to their children. Murder at the Museum essentially answers that eternal question "What if Poirot was a 10 year old girl, from the north-east of England, wearing a fake moustache?

A brilliantly funny young murder mystery from a rising stand-up comedian, podcaster and filmmaker – and exciting new tal. She and her granddad have solved many together in the past (even if the police think of them more as troublesome elements), and manage to get people to talk more than they might as Bonnie becomes Montgomery Bonbon, a short but astute European detective with her own senior assistant. This is the story of Bonnie Montgomery: a ten year old girl who puts on a false moustache and becomes Montgomery Bonbon, the great detective. Then again, Claire Powell’s elongated line drawings hit the style, wit and skill of this storytelling brilliantly! The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products.

And it’s also a heart-warming example of a special relationship between a young girl and her Grampa. The capers are great, and I enjoyed plunging into the nostalgia of watching Pirot when I was younger - the urge to don a bushy mustache, butcher an accent (I can't do any accent), and look for clues.Perfect for confident readers in Year 4 upwards, it’s really lovely to see a book with so many pictures in it aimed at the top end of primary school; this, coupled with the book’s relatively short length of 304 pages, will make this a really tempting read for many young readers. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly!

Claire’s collaborations with Kes Gray and Simon Farnaby – The Night Before The Night Before Christmas ; The Night after Christmas ; The Wizard and Me – all topped the charts to become bestsellers.

But, dead body aside, this is a fun story and I think a lot of mature children would enjoy reading it. It is a strong first novel from the outstanding, talented man known to mny as the Interdimensional ABK. The pace is quite leisurely compared to a lot of children's books, which me and my 9yo appreciated as a lot of them are rather manic. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot!
