The gel has been formulated to relieve pain caused by mouth ulcers, and is also sugar-free. It has been given a banana flavour to make it more appealing for children over 5 months of age who may be using the product. Do not give to children or adolescents under 16 years of age. This is because there is a possible link between salicylates and Reye’s syndrome when given to children. Reye’s syndrome is a very rare disease which affects the brain and liver and can be fatal. Products including Bonjela, Bonjela Cool Mint Gel and Bonjela Complete Plus, are not suitable for use if a child is under 16 years of age. This is because one of the ingredients used within the formula of these products has been found to have a potential relation to salicylates and Reye's syndrome when given to children. This medicine contains fragrance with d-Limonene, anisyl alcohol and linalool. d-limonene, anisyl alcohol and linalool may cause allergic reactions. You should seek alternative products and avoid using Bonjela Adult if either of the following things is true: Cetalkonium chloride is an antiseptic that kills a variety of bacteria and fungi that could infect sore or broken skin in the mouth.
