romance: I thought it was tolerable, but instead of being a sub plot, it had a big focus on it and I feel as if it may have taken away from the actual story. Why did I end up caring about this romance more than the main conflict?? Though the way things played out with the romance, I didn't like (see summary).

Get started Close On the other hand – not a bright side – the answer to the tormenting question “Who is the killer?” is quite obvious so the mystery itself is not that strongly wrapped in unknown and delusion, which on my list is a weak point, but the good news is that the story is quite enjoyable so it kind of balances things out. Some strong language, but not frequent, including "f--k" and variations, "s--t" and variations, "God," "damn," "a--hole," "Jesus," "whore," "slut," "crap," "ass," "hell," "d--khead," "Christ," and "motherf--ker."

The four narrators become suspects in Simon’s murder, as they each had a motive to kill Simon: he ran a gossip app called About That, and his next post was to feature their darkest secrets. When they are accused, the secrets gradually come out, in part because of Tumblr posts by the supposed murderer. Their lives change as a result: Addy’s cheating on her boyfriend Jake Riordan results in their breakup and her ostracization; Bronwyn’s cheating in chemistry class imperils her admittance to Yale and sends her into Nate’s arms; Cooper’s homosexuality puts his baseball future on the line and reveals fake friends; and Nate’s past criminal history including drug dealing ultimately lands him in jail, accused of Simon’s murder. Jake is taken into custody and Nate is released but is shaken from his time in the juvenile detention center, rejecting Bronwyn's concern and breaking off their relationship. Addy heals in the hospital and after, Ashton asks Addy to live with her, which Addy happily accepts. Cooper's college options begin to reappear and his relationship with his father starts to improve. Bronwyn applies to Yale and begins dating Evan Neiman, another student, though she does not consider it serious. She later finds Nate waiting for her after a major piano recital when he apologizes for dismissing her. The story ends as she accepts his offer to a movie. THIS BOOK!! You guys, I thought this book was brilliant! So many great elements all thrown together. the characters: I liked Bronwyn and Nate enough to stay I didn't hate them. Not Addy and Cooper though. They were laughable and Addy's whole empowering story line was corny. Also, you're not going to catch me uplifting a bunch of cheaters. And everyone else didn't have a prominent personality and I didn't care for them.Janae Vargas: Simon's best friend. She plays a crucial role in the climax. She becomes friends with Addy. She is insecure. Jake Riordan: Addy's boyfriend and old friend of Simon's. He has a controlling nature, and when Addy's secret comes to light, he breaks up with her. Maeve Rojas: Bronwyn's younger sister. She is an intellect and takes a proactive role alongside Bronwyn in trying to solve the murder. She has also been featured in a post by Simon. She suffered from leukemia at the age of seven. All of the characters go through some personal growth throughout the book. This growth is done realistically; nothing is over the top or too unbelievable. I listened to the audiobook and was pleased that it had different narrators for each of the main characters.You, you're a murder suspect and all your secrets are gonna be exposed, have a nicE LIFE!!! Want a cookie? :)) I don't read too many contemporaries but gosh-dang was I glued to this plot - the way the clues were revealed slowly and steadily. It was thrilling. This book would make a great movie! Karen M. McManus did a great job for a debut, I'm already looking forward to reading her future books. Also, can we please NOT make the only queer character in the cast a horrible character who cheats and hurts people? AND can we not make the character's coming-out scene a bigger twist than the actual murderer reveal? This book also does some serious vilifying of mental illness, but I won't get started on that rant.
